We Held TinyGo Keeb Tour 2026 in Singapore

TinyGo Keeb Tour

Hello, this is satoken.

Until now, TinyGo Keeb has mainly been active within Japan, but this time we held our very first overseas workshop in Singapore.

In this article, I’d like to share a report on the event.

How It Started

The opportunity to hold this event in Singapore began with the TinyGo Conference we hosted last year.

There, I met Valentine, one of the organizers of GopherCon SG, who attended the conference. While chatting together at an izakaya in Akihabara, we enthusiastically agreed: “Let’s hold a workshop in Singapore next year!”

From that point on, we worked through each challenge one by one in preparation for the event, including arranging travel and preparing soldering irons and parts for the workshop.

5/21 — Workshop Day

This time, the TinyGo Keeb workshop was held on the day before GopherCon SG. Originally, it was scheduled for May 20th, but the date changed shortly before the event, and it ultimately took place the day before the conference. The venue was SMU (Singapore Management University).

After arriving at the venue, we set up the soldering irons, protective desk mats, components, and other equipment on the tables as usual.

Once everything was ready and participants had gathered, both the staff and participants introduced themselves, and then we began the morning soldering session.

Thankfully, there were no major issues, and everyone smoothly progressed through the soldering process. One keyboard after another was successfully completed.

Not long after the workshop began, Ron Evans, the lead maintainer of TinyGo, arrived at the venue.

The TinyGo Keeb members immediately gathered around Ron and enjoyed talking with him so much that they nearly forgot about the workshop itself.

Of course, Ron Evans also joined in the soldering.

Once everyone finished soldering, we moved to the cafeteria at SMU and had lunch together.

In the afternoon, participants enjoyed programming in TinyGo using the keyboards they had completed earlier that morning.

One participant even created a keyboard using a rotary encoder that could input every letter of the alphabet.

As always, many wonderful creations were born from the workshop.

This event had a total of 10 participants, making it a great success.

5/22 — GopherCon SG

The day after the workshop, GopherCon SG 2026 was held.

During the session, our very own sago gave a presentation introducing TinyGo and demonstrated how to build a keyboard with TinyGo through live coding.

The Q&A session afterward was also very lively.

After lunch, during the afternoon lightning talks, micchie,

Senoue,

and logica

all gave presentations as well.

We were also given an exhibition booth at short notice, where many attendees showed strong interest and engaged in active discussions with us.

We also took a commemorative group photo with everyone who participated.

After the conference ended, we moved to the afterparty venue and continued networking and deepening connections with one another.

Although it was hard to leave in the middle of the afterparty, we headed to the airport and safely returned to Japan.

Closing Thoughts

When we first started TinyGo Keeb activities, none of us ever imagined that we would one day hold a workshop overseas. The fact that this became a reality in the form of a workshop in Singapore is deeply moving.

This achievement was only possible thanks to everyone who has participated in TinyGo Keeb workshops so far, Gophers Japan for strongly supporting the TinyGo Conference, NEWT for not only arranging our trip to Singapore but also providing extensive support in many ways, and of course all of our friends and teammates who continue to work together with us.

Thank you very much to all of you.

We are also planning to hold TinyGo Conference again in 2026. In addition, we are preparing more workshops and participation in events such as NT Kanazawa and Tech Book Fest.

We hope to see you again at the next event!
